An open letter to deviantArt by kanyiko, journal

Whenever I hear people talk about how AI would be okay if the datasets and models were "ethical" .... I really, really cringe. No, it won't be okay, it will never be okay, because this is not about copyrights - it is about so so so ineffably more. Let me try to explain it with a metaphor that will give you an idea what I mean. AI is like a tank rolling out on the streets of a major city shooting rockets all over the place - and that about "ethical" datasets is like you are complaining that the links it runs on are leaving streaks on the asphalt of the street - and JUST that. Sure, maybe they'll make a tank that runs on wheels, and the asphalt will be intact then. The rest of the city will be complete dead ruin, but it's okay - the streets will be pristine. You just HAVE to think of this bigger than just the immediate issues. You HAVE to think about it in perspective because its effects and repercussions will roll down not just the years, but the generations. Kids are ALREADY using

My Bio

Greetings.

Just an artist-hobbyist from the small country of Latvia. Interested in traditional art, crafting and other such crafty stuff.

I sometimes make some digital art as well, especially logotypes. I am also tinkering with digital drawings, although my digital art skill could use some work.

Please, check out my gallery, if interested.

Rock on, and enjoy your visit. :horns:

The herniated-sequestrated spinal disc surgery is done; thanks to the brilliant and skillful doctors, and the rest of the medical staff at the clinic I was staying at. Now begins the month-long rehabilitation process. This will be a lesson that sometimes it is fully okay to tell one's boss a stern "No, I won't do that" - like, when hand-positioning half-ton industrial sewing machines, for example. No job is worth ruining your health.

Big update: Got a herniated disc surgery on Monday. Update 17-09-2023, Sunday, 17:40 potatoland standard time: The surgery is now some 16 hours away. Hopefully it will be successful, and I will be able to live my life without pain...
